FRIDAY FORUM: Perfection

“Simple is best, and perfection is generally about what you can remove rather than what you can add. So beware of over-complexity or complexity for complexity sake.” -Andy Kirkpatrick

I don’t believe perfection is obtainable. There will always be a way to improve. But we should strive for it at every turn.

The quote above is from one of the more brilliant climbers alive today and captures the essence of ARS operational and design philosophy.  As we’ve discussed before, SIMPLICITY is the keystone of the most successful endeavors because it is the easiest to attain in complex, uncertain environments fraught with friction and threat.

To become a master you must pair down, not up.  Consider the following opportunities for cutting the excess:

What equipment can I streamline?

What steps can I minimize to reach my objective?

How can I operate with a bias toward simplicity?

How can I focus my attention on the important details to generate flow?

Japanese Haiku poems are generally limited to 17 syllables in total, yet their impact is profound. Pursue perfection through simplicity. Less really is more.
